This year’s NFL draft is done and in my opinion, and many others, the Seattle Seahawks did well. Picked up a much needed tackle in  Russell Okung and help in their secondary with the selection of Earl Thomas. Seattle had many areas that needed addressing and Pete Carroll and company did a great job of filling those needs.

Even int he later rounds they got some good picks. Golden Tate gives them some help in the receiving corps, and more defensive picks in later rounds. Add in some trades for running backs and the only area they really didn’t address was a quarterback of the future. If Matt Hasselbeck stays healthy, which Okung should help in making sure he does, then this may not have needed addressing in the draft.

Looking forward to the start of the season, go Seahawks!

Leading up to the Super Bowl I was seeing lots of press about the “anti-abortion” message that would given by the Tim Tebow ad via Focus on the Family. I watched the ad during the game, and even again online after the game, to form my own opinion to this anti-abortion message.

Not once during the ad did I hear the word abortion used, nor anything hinting at an abortion message. Tim’s mom said it was rough. some tough choices were made, but here is her son. I guess talking about making tough choices mean you are anti-abortion to the media today.

As many of you know, Rush Limbaugh was denied a bid to become a part owner of a NFL football team. Reading and hearing the attacks that came out against Rush it was truly a great example of what the liberals in this country have to offer: lies.

To be fair, some of the statements that the left attributed to Rush were not lies, but taken out of context Looking at 10 words that someone says without looking at the 200 he said leading up to those 10 can lead to a misunderstanding. But the lies, and spread by the main stream media such as CNN were a good (or is it bad?) example of what the “fourth pillar of government” has become. Fact checking is too much to ask for I guess asking factcheck.org to do a little checking is asking too much.

What in the end makes this funnier is some of the people allowed to represent the NFL or comment upon the NFL. Keith Olberman is one of the biggest racist out there but is the NFL worries about the imagine he brings to the NFL? Convicted felon Michael Vick? No worries again? Any of the players busted for doing drugs, dealing drugs, shooting people, etc? No again, not an issue for the NFL. Only issue is being a conservative.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, can make some really stupid comments at times. Really dumb. His latest regarding the video screens at the new Cowboys stadium is one that shows his ignorance:

“You can anticipate the ball hitting the board from time to time,” he said. “There’s no reason why this can’t be something (for punters) to deal with very similar to the way you’d deal with the wind in your face or with elements; rain, sleet or snow.”

Um Jerry, those are natural occurring things. A team can’t stop the wind, rain, snow. If a team comes up with a way to do this then they have a great future at renting out these skills. But a video screen hanging too low in a stadium? Sorry, that is something under a team’s control.

This Saturday is UFC 100, Frank Mir versus Brock Lesnar. Mir won the first time these two met by submitting Lesnar 1:30 into the first round. I’m betting that Lesnar has improved since then. So who will win?

For Mir to win he has to get Lesnar emotional. Some may think that getting someone built like Lesnar emotional is suicidal, but if Lesnar gives into emotions then his head is outt of the game. If this happens Mir has a good chance of submitting Lesnar.

For Lesnar to win he needs to keep it a stand up fight. I’ve heard how improve Lesnar’s Jiu-Jitsu skills are, but it doesn’t matter. If Lesnar wants to fight a Jiu-Jitsu ground game then he is fighting the fight  Mir wants to fight. Make your opponent fight your game, don’t fight his game.

Who do I think will win? Tough call, I think Mir will squeeze a win out. I also cheering for Mir.

Lucky for, and I would thus say say unlucky for us, finding examples of Congress acting in a stupid way is easy to do. The latest is members of Congress deciding they know best how a national champion for college football should be determined. The source for this is a senator from some state that is ticked off because the college team from his state wasn’t in the championship game.

If one stops and thinks about the important issues out there that Congress should be focusing upon, I doubt determining a college football national champion is going to make the top ten list. It wouldn’t even make it on my list at all as I don’t see where Congress has the power to muddle in this area. I think we need a Constitutional Amendment that states that at the start of each day that Congress is in session, each attending member of Congress has to stand up and recite Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. And I mean one by one. Lets hear that recited 100 teams each day when the Senate is seated, 435 in the house.

I never thought Aaron Curry would have been available, but he was. Curry is a great player and will play well for the Seahawks. If Matt Hasselbeck makes it for a couple of more years then it will be seen as a great pick. But if he goes down again this year and the Seahawks need a quarterback they’ll wish they had picked Sanchez.

I can see three main areas where I think the Seattle Seahawks need help:

  1. Quarterback
  2. Offensive line
  3. Defensive backs

I thought of adding tight end in there but I think they will be set there. The above is in the order I think the Seahawks should draft.

Matt Hasselbeck is going to really start to show his age. He’ll probably make it through this season, maybe next, but the Seahawks better have a plan. They should draft Mark Sanchez from USC to be Hasselbeck’s replacement. He has a good arm, and even ore important seems to show good “smarts” on the field. Get him now and give him a chance to learn the offense before tossing him into the ring.

For the other two positions the Seahawks should go with the best available at that time. I would love to see them get a great tackle but with a second pick it will most likely be a good tackle, unless they their second pick and something else to move up.
