Two wrongs do not make a right. We can speak out against the acts of late term abortions made by Dr. George Tiller. In the end the acts he was performing were legal under the law. Murdering someone performing a legal act can rarely be justified. This is a case of where it can never be justified. An act like this will not persuade others like Dr. Tiller to stop their acts but only end up hurting those of us that believe the act of abortion is wrong, especially late term abortions where the life of the mother is not at stake.
The people that performed this act will attempt to justify it in their minds by saying they are preventing further murders. While many of us would agree that abortion is murder in the eyes of the Church, we also need to recognize that do not only obey God’s law, but the laws of the government we live in. The proper way to stop abortion is through education and addressing our politicians to change the law. Murder is not the answer.
My prayers go out to the family and friends of Dr. Tiller.
